Installation

The Ziva Cheetah demo has three main elements:

  • A Maya Module containing the zivaCheetahDemo plugin (ZivaCheetahDemo-Module)

  • A license file (“.lic”) granting access to the Cheetah Demo.

  • A demo Maya scene file (ZivaCheetahDemo-Scene)

Requirements

  • NVIDIA GPU with CUDA support and latest drivers installed

  • Autodesk Maya 2017-2019 (Viewport 2.0 with OpenGL)

  • Windows 10 or CentOS 7 Linux

NVIDIA Driver Installation

The Ziva Cheetah demo requires an NVIDIA GPU and up-to-date NVIDIA graphics driver. We have tested the demo with driver version 430 or later. If you aren’t sure which driver version you have, we recommend upgrading to the latest drivers for increased compatibility and speed. The most recent drivers can be downloaded from NVIDIA’s Website or through the NVIDIA GeForce Experience application.

Maya Module Installation

The Ziva Cheetah plugin is distributed as a Maya Module, so the easiest way to install it is to copy the contents of ZivaCheetahDemo-Module directly into your local Maya Modules directory.

Windows

  • Copy the contents of ZivaCheetahDemo-Module (ZivaCheetahDemo.mod and ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0) into “Documents\maya\modules” (you may need to create this directory if it doesn’t already exist).

  • Copy the license file you received into “Documents\maya\modules\ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0”.

After installation, your modules directory should contain these files (names will vary slightly depending on software versions):

modules\ZivaCheetahDemo.mod
modules\ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0\<yourLicense>.lic
modules\ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0\plug-ins\win64Maya20xx\zivaCheetahDemo.mll

Linux

  • Copy the contents of ZivaCheetahDemo-Module into “~/maya/modules”:

    mkdir -p ~/maya/modules
    cp -r ZivaCheetahDemo-Module/* ~/maya/modules

  • Copy the license file you received into the new ZivaCheetahDemo module directory:

    cp <yourLicense>.lic ~/maya/modules/ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0/

After installation, your modules directory should contain these files (names will vary slightly depending on software versions):

modules/ZivaCheetahDemo.mod
modules/ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0/<yourLicense>.lic
modules/ZivaCheetahDemo-1_0/plug-ins/linuxMaya20xx/zivaCheetahDemo.so

Custom Module Installation

For more detailed instructions on installing Maya Modules, including alternate installation locations, please see Autodesk’s documentation on “Installing the module”.

License Installation

The details of license installation depend on whether you have downloaded a node-locked (single-user) license or a floating (shared) license.

Node-Locked License

If you are using a single-user node-locked license, you can download it directly from your account on the Ziva web store, on the same page where you download the demo. Copy the “.lic” license file into the same directory as the Maya plug-in file (see above).

Floating License

Please contact your license administrator to ensure that an RLM license server has been installed and can be contacted by your computer. They should provide you with a “.lic” file that contains the address of the license server, and this file should be installed into the same directory as the Maya plug-in file (see above).

For more information, please refer to License Troubleshooting.

Demo Maya Scene

Once you have installed the Maya Module, license, and latest NVIDIA drivers, you should be able to open the included Maya scene file:

ZivaCheetahDemo-Scene/ZivaCheetah.mb
